This was by far the cheapest and easily the best hotel we've stayed at during our 9 day trip through the Midlands. Room and bathroom were big, clean and comfy, breakfast was amazing with lots of vegan options (and very well labelled) and the city center is only a 10 minute walk away. Would definitely stay here again!

The UK's 2nd largest city, Birmingham is one of its top cultural centers. Well-known for its M6 Spaghetti Junction interchange, it's also a surprisingly green city with lots of open spaces.
Most city center hotels in Birmingham are near New Street Station. To the east is the futuristic architecture of the new Bull Ring shopping center, and behind that is Digbeth Bus Station. To the west is Victoria Square, home of the town hall and a German Christmas Market.
The Mailbox is one of the newest additions to the Birmingham shopping scene, and behind it is one of the canals converging on the Gas Street Basin. By one canal are the ICC (International Convention Center) and the NIA (National Indoor Arena), both venues that host major events.
Just across the street is Brindleyplace, a canal-front complex of restaurants, bars and hotels near Broad Street – the main nightlife area. It is popular with students at nearby Birmingham University, whose clock tower is modeled on the one in Siena. Just south in Bournville is Cadbury World, and there are several hotels on Hagley Road to the north, which are available on Booking.com.
The city is also known for sports – Aston Villa and Birmingham City are the top soccer clubs, while Edgbaston Cricket Ground hosts international matches. Other Birmingham attractions include Hockley’s Jewellery Quarter and the NEC arena by Birmingham International Airport.
I visited the gay scene and China Town mainly. I was made to feel very welcome. As a stranger on my own I soon got invited to chat to the locals especially when out for a night out. The Chinese food was great and the gay scene was amazing 👏 🤩.

Birmingham is an easy to navigate city.
Birmingham is an easy to navigate city. Very clean and friendly.
I went for a weekend event but arrived a day early and visited the Birmingham museum and gallery with my 10 year old girls which they enjoyed the culture.
We also stayed an extra day to check out the think tank science museum which kept them fully engaged all day as it was so hands on. The cafe was great too with different budget options for meals.
I hadn't realised Birmingham had so many places to visit nearby. We'll definitely be back for longer with a planned agenda to explore more in the area.

The room was very clean and tidy, bathroom huge and also very clean. Shower was good.
Beds comfortable but the pillows looked like they were 100 years old. They were as flat as a pancake, definitely need updating.
The lifts were out of order which was a pain to carry all our luggage up to the 3rd floor, no offer of help from the staff unfortunately.
Also, this hotel is cashless. So be prepared to have to put everything on your card. You cant charge drinks or snacks to your room either, even though the snack vending machine/fridge in reception states ‘charge to room’ on the side of it.
Breakfast was good, lots of choice and quite tasty. I was surprised that breakfast was served until 12.00 on weekends and bank holidays, this was extremely helpful since we had been out to a rave in Birmingham until 3am so definitely could not have got up super early for breakfast!
I also liked that you can check out up to 12pm. Most places want to boot you out by 10am, so that was really handy not having to rush in them morning.
I would come back again if I were to go to another event in Birmingham.

I’ll be straight up I booked this hotel by mistake by hitting the wrong hotel tag and then without realising I’d made a mistake paid up front because it was cheaper. It wasn’t until after the confirmation came through that I realised my mistake and that I’d booked a hotel behind Snow Hill and I wouldn’t get my moneyback if I tried to change it because I hadn’t made a flexible booking. I then spent the next few months thinking the hotel was at the back end of nowhere and because of the price being so cheap it would be awful. Well, how wrong could you get. The hotel was literally a few minutes from the cathedral and to everywhere you needed to get. It took us around 12 to 15 minutes to be sat having a pint in Brindley square from the hotel, about 12 minutes walking to the beautiful St Pauls square. Ideal for the NIA and all the museums and Art galleries. We opted for the 18th floor and got some fab views across Birmingham and all the other normal facilities you get in a good hotel, including an iron, ironing boad and a hairdryer. The toiletries too were DOVe and not some cheap shampoo and soap. The room was excellent and had air con , Free Wi Fi, massive shower, comfy bed and HD television. The staff were fantastic, friendly and attentive and nothing seemed too much to ask. And to top it all breakfast came included and not just your croissant and fruit juice but sausages, eggs, bacon beans and hash browns, toast and muffins and drinks. I can’t remember the last time we booked in anywhere that was nice and decent where breakfast was included. We came out wondering why we’d never tried Holiday Express Inns before, we will definitely be going back. It was excellent.

If you're outside of center or commercial area the city is dirty. I'd say the problem is with not enough litterboxes or not enough litterbox dumping.
Everywhere I went. The litterboxes were either full or non at all. I don't understand how you can make bus stop without a litterbox.

Staying overnight in the city centre of Birmingham for...
Staying overnight in the city centre of Birmingham for concerts or whatever is so easy and always a fun and friendly place to go. Plenty of choice in places to eat, drink and shop and my wife and I always visit the large Wetherspoons pub at New Street Station for a drink and food, which is always pretty crowded. On this occasion we went to see Average White Band at Birmingham Town Hall, a great place to see a concert with superb acoustics and a well stocked bar and we were allowed to take our drinks into the concert hall so that was certainly a bonus. We stayed overnight at The Briar Rose, which is extremely popular and is usually fairly crowded but the waiting time for being served drinks is short considering. Definitely worth seeing a music performance at Birmingham Town Hall because of it's seating and perfect view of the stage from the circle. We certainly look forward to our next visit to Birmingham.
Everything about the stay was great, apartment was lovely and clean and in a really good location.
I canceled a room at a local hotel to stay as it seemed much better value for less money and was not disappointed!
I had read some comments about the property being hard to find , so was quite surprised by how easy it was - upon booking i was sent a pdf containing all relevant information including pictures, this was really helpful and we found the apartment in no time.
The location is less than 100 yards from Birmingham New Street train station which made arriving and departing very convenient. Central location also meant great public transport links / easy taxi access. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Property was spotless. Room a fair size and adequately appointed. Bed was comfy. Shower excellent. Breakfast was superb. The price I paid was half of what I would expect to pay for a similar room in city centre hotel.
Location near to city centre. Bull ring. Think tank. Which we were going to. A lot of work being carried out through out Birmingham and near hotel but once inside you would know. Price we paid was fantastic for what the hotel offers well decorated throughout exceptionally clean rooms good size for me and my 2 children. Highly recommend the restaurant any breakfast was fantastic lots to choose from.
The Clayton Hotel is an excellent choice for those seeking a luxurious stay in central Birmingham. Five minutes walk from the Bullring Shopping Centre and downtown. The staff were very helpful and definitely went the extra mile for us. The room/bathroom was super clean and had good facilities. The amazing breakfast buffet was a definite highlight of our stay.
The hotel is very conveniently placed, close to Birmingham City Centre and within walking distance of the local tram stop.
The hotel is a little dated, but it is a pleasant place to stay and has a certain charm about it. The staff were helpful and the facilities were good. We really enjoyed breakfast and found the room to be comfortable.
The mister at the reception was incredibly friendly and funny and welcoming, he really contributed to the joy of my stay. The hotel is 10 min walking to the city center, a little bit uphill. 5 minutes to the Chinese quarter and gay village. Restaurants and supermarket are adjacent to the hotel. The room was spacious, modern and comfy.
We stayed in the superior king suite and we were not disappointed. Amazing views over Birmingham, comfortable room and breakfast was excellent. We were visiting for a celebration/the Christmas markets - the hotel is located close to the city centre and walkable to the main facilities of the city. Lovely walk along the canal.
Apartment was clean and well appointed, three seperate bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom and small lounge with a tv. Close to Birmingham city centre in a decent neighbourhood. We only stayed the one night for a gig but the cost saving for 3 people against local hotels was significant.
The room is amazing, beds were very comfortable and the staff, especially the receptionist were SOO helpful. Id definitely a place to stay here again when Im back in Birmingham city centre. We had an work event at the hotel and it was definitely supported nicely by the hotel.
The room had a sofa bed so we could all 4 git in. Even though it was noy big it had everything you need. The discount for parking in b4 area which is bearby was also very convenient. The breakfast included in the room hotel is not vary common so another good point.
The hotel was a short bus trip from Birmingham City Centre. The facade and interior of the hall were lovely, we stayed in an area just outside the hall. We spoke to two members of staff throughout our stay for check in/ check out and they were both very helpful.
I was in Birmingham for a conference at the ICC. This hotel was excellently located for this and for the rest of the city centre, including the Christmas market. It was very comfortable and had all the facilities you would expect for a business hotel.
The hotel is a fairly new build, so the rooms and corridors are fresh and well painted. It is in a perfect location; short walk to Birmingham New Street and the city centre.
A great buffet breakfast; everything you could want and no rush to finish.
comfortable hotel 15 min in car away form Birmingham city center. there was a bus stop one block away which made it easy to go downtown. the hotel was clean, we payed 7 pounds for breakfast which was convenient for us.
The location was spot on for what we needed.
About 5 minutes from New Street Station and with the bar below it was perfect.
Will Definitely use this hotel again if we come to Birmingham for a gig.
Friendly and helpful staff along with an excellent location nearby Broad Street, the city centre and the main attractions in Birmingham make this hotel an excellent choice for a weekend family trip
The staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The location is right across from the Birmingham new street station and in a shopping district. The building has old and elegant charm.
